McLaren Hits Us With Their Next Supercar – The 540C

On the other side of the world at the Shanghai Motor Show in China McLaren have just launched the latest in their sports series, the 540C (540 Club). This car will sit one notch lower in the McLaren range than the newly released 570S, which we recently talked about. The 540C is designed to be focused as a car that can be used as a daily commuter car rather than an out and out race car.

Engine And Performance

The 540C will use the standard McLaren 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 533bhp and 398 lb/ft of torque. The 540C will hit 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds, 0.3 seconds slower than the 570S, and it has a top speed of 199mph, down from 204mph in the McLaren 570S.

Technical Components

With this McLaren you get a carbon fibre monocell II tub, road going adaptive damper, a set of very nice cast aluminium wheels, but you won’t be getting those hugely expensive carbon brakes that the big brother 570S has.

McLaren 540C

All this means that the 540C comes in at a fairly respectable cost of £126,000, it’s not that bad for a McLaren. This makes it one of the most affordable supercars in the world and is the most attainable McLaren to date. I can’t wait to hear more about this car in the near future.
