Honda 2&4 – Crazy Single Seat Ariel Atom Rival

Honda has revealed a new track day special, the 2&4. The 2&4 is a cooperative effort from both Honda’s Motorcycle and Moto GP division and their Car division. The 2&4 is powered by a detuned version of the 999cc V4 engine in Honda’s RC213V Moto GP bike. The 2&4s crazy design is part bike-part car-part insane track day weapon designed to take on the likes of the Ariel Atom, KTM X Bow and the BAC Mono.

Honda 2&4 – Feelings Of Freedom

The 2&4 has an unusual layout in that the engine sits beside the driver, with the driver being completely open to the elements, Honda claim the design is intended to give the driver the same feelings of freedom that they would have on a motorcycle. The power from this incredible machine sounds rather weak when you compare it to its rivals; a mere 212bhp compared to the Atom’s 245bhp from its naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine. Torque is down on its rivals as well, a frankly tiny 87 lb-ft compared to the Atom’s 170 lb-ft. Where the 2&4 shines, however, is its power to weight ratio due to its featherweight 405kg (115 lighter than the Atom) it has a power to weight ratio of an incredible 523bhp per tonne.

The History Of That Livery

The livery for the 2&4 is based on that of the RA272 Formula One car which became the first Japanese car to win at top level motorsport, in the Mexican Grand Prix 40 years ago this October. The 2&4 clearly is trying to celebrate that success all those years ago. I doubt they’ll be celebrating the current F1 season 40 years from now.
