VW recently announced three production models of its Bluesport concept. Each one of them is to come under different badges of Audi, Volkswagen, and Porsche. It goes without saying that the one with Porsche badge is going to be the real power deal. The vehicle has been named as Porsche 550, which was until now called as baby Boxster.
Engine and Performance
Initially, the vehicle was speculated to be built on the company’s latest sports vehicle architecture and it was expected to be powered by a turbocharged 1.6liter engine, mated to a dual-clutch seven speed gearbox. The mid-mounted power plant would have generated 200hp, but now we have news of a more powerful 550.

It will feature an all new horizontal four cylinder engine arrangement that will generate 201hp and 215lb-ft of toque. If in future Porsche decides to come up with even powerful variant, then it would come with turbo charged 2.5liter four cylinder engine, which will generate 360hp and 350lb-ft of torque.
Efficiency and Emissions
This vehicle is expected to weigh around 1,200kg and this two-seater Porsche is expected to accelerate from 0-60 mph in just 6.0seconds. The maximum attainable top speed would be 145mph. The vehicle is also expected to be fuel efficient at an average of 40mpg and it would emit around 160g of CO2 every kilometre. The reduced CO2 emission is achieved because of the new start-stop feature.
Pricing
The vehicle is expected to see the showrooms in Europe in 2014 and is expected to be priced around £35,000. This will make it cheaper than the current Boxster models. The difference is around 20% of the price of current Boxster, which also means that the Americans will have to shell out around $38,000 to purchase the vehicle.
The new Porsche 550 will come with manually operated roof and the vehicle will be very much like a regular Porsche. It is expected to become the most agile and driver-focused offering in the company’s latest line of vehicles.
