Overview of Ford Explorer

ford explorerCompany introduced the Ford Explorer for the first time during 1991, and it became the best-selling SUV in America within no time.

Reasons for Popularity

There were many reasons for its popularity, such as superb performance, and excellent towing capabilities. The first generation Explorer was available in two different models and produced only as a 2-door vehicle. Moreover, another important factor was its size. It was highly used for family traveling and used as a pickup truck too.

However, it did not show more kinship with the small sized Ranger pickup of Ford. It was available as a medium sized SUV, but not in compact size.

The ultimate reason for the success of Ford Explorer was relatively weak competition in the automobile market. At that time, some of its mainstream competitors were Isuzu Vehicross, Rodeo, Trooper, Toyota 4Runner, Mitsubishi Montero, Nissan Pathfinder, and Jeep Cherokee. It scored its rivals in most of the aspects, but its biggest downside was its congested interior space.
